Brides and Bride-zillas

I’m not sure what happens to brides-to-be when they get down to the wire of their big day. I don’t care if she is a big city bride, a small town bride, a Central Coast bride or an out-in-the-boonies bride. Some kind of brain-altering change comes over about 75% of them.

This isn’t only my perception. There’s an entire series on cable TV devoted to showcasing brides from the dark side, brides from Hell, whatever you want to call them.

It happened to my little sister the day she remarried. "It’s my wedding day," became her mantra — justification for acting like a class A, number one witch with a capital "B." I hate saying it about my own sister, but it’s true.

She yelled at my daughter and the twin ring bearers, all 5 years old, and had them all in tears because they got fidgety and tired after 80 minutes of photographs after a 1-hour-long ceremony. Hey, I was fidgety and cranky, too.

How much of the real person comes out when brides are under wedding day stress and how much is fleeting? I wonder…

My Contribution to the Wedding

I have never been one that has any attention span when it comes to planning event. To be honest, I don’t really care. But, when I was getting married, my wife was insistent that I participate in the planning of the wedding.

I tried to help her out, but honestly, it was too boring for me. I didn’t care what colors we used, or where we had it, I just wanted to get it over with.

So, I decided that instead of having to make the decisions myself, I hired a wedding coordinator to help her make those tough decisions. That way, it would free up my time to do something else.

How did the wedding go?

Perfectly. She loved the wedding, and there was no problems. Now that it is over, I can get on with living my life, instead of planning every little minute of it - if I need someone to plan something, I will let my wife do it.
